Thomas Rose, MD

Finished his medical education in 1998 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. Thomas Rose started his surgical training as a general surgeon in 1998. From 1998 to 2004 Thomas Rose worked as a Surgical Trainee in different hospitals.

In 2004 he was registered as a general surgeon in Belgium.

After finishing his training as general surgeon he started a additional training in Intensive Care Medicine. In 2008 he was registered as a specialist in the Intensive Care Medicine in Belgium. In 2006 he started working as a burn surgeon in the Military Hospital Queen Astrid in Brussels. In 2006 he was appointed as chief of the skin-and keratinocyt tissue banks of the Military Hospital Queen Astrid. In 2007 he was appointed as deputy chief of the burn unit in the Military Hospital Queen Astrid. He is also working as a consultant specialist Intensive Care Medicine at the UZ Brussel university hospital.

Since 2004 major research topics of Thomas Rose are new strategies in the treatment of wound infections, developing of new skin replacement therapies and clinical nutrition. For those topics a multidisciplinary team of Intensive Care Specialists, surgeons, microbiologists, biologists, lab technicians and research nurses was formed. Special area of interest for the treatment of wound infections are the Bacteriophage therapy. Therefore different basic resaerch projects are performed.

Furthermore, different projects for developing new dermal substitutes are ongoing. A special aspect of the research team is to control the correct use of donated human tissue. Discuss ethical aspects, report and publish illegeal practice and developing guide lines to prevent donated tissue in profit bussiness are several items of the work of the research team. Thomas Rose is member of various international scientific organisations related to Burn Care, Wound Care and Clinical Nutrition.
