WE
are approaching the Second World Union of Wound Healing Societies meeting
in Paris, France, from 8–13 July 2004, at which the European Tissue
Repair Society is one of four co-hosting societies. The World meeting
is serving as our annual meeting for 2004. The excellent final programme
offers a variety of aspects of wound healing ranging from clinical utilisation
in practice to the newest results of research into the science of tissue
repair. Luc Téot has informed me that there were more than 1000
abstracts submitted for this major meeting.
There have been a number of stimulating editorials in wound care journals
related to the meeting. One by Deborah Glover in the Journal of Wound
Care where she emphasises that more than nineteen national and international
societies that are participating in this event are actively involved in
‘education and teaching’ as well as developing world programmes.
Luc Téot has written an editorial in the Australian wound journal
Primary Intention again emphasising the aim of the second meeting
which follows from the First World meeting held in Melbourne in 2000.
The programme can be viewed on the World Union of
Wound healing Societies website www.wuwhs.org
or www.etrs.org.
The ETRS will have a booth at this meeting and we look forward for all
our members attending and being part of this event.
On 18–20 November 2004, following the tradition of successful ETRS
Focus meetings, this year’s focus meeting will be on ‘Tissue
repair, contraction and the myofibroblast’ in Nyon, Switzerland
and is being organised by Christine Chaponnier, Guilio Gabbiani and Alexis
Desmouliere. The abstract deadline for this meeting is 31 August 2004
and further details may be found in this issue of the Bulletin or on our
website www.etrs.org.
